Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong, slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge into northeastern New South Wales, while a low pressure trough over central parts of the state weakens. A low pressure system southeast of Perth will deepen and move steadily east during the next few days, with an associated cold front expected to reach the state's western border during Thursday, continuing to the coast by early Saturday. This system is forecast to bring a significant cold outbreak to the region.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers on the far North Coast, and about the southern ranges and slopes, scattered at first near the Victorian border. The chance of light showers about the northern and central tablelands, and parts of the central west. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Northerly winds, freshening in the west.Thursday 18 JulyRain areas developing in the western inland, with the chance of local thunder, extending to the southern inland later. Isolated showers over the southern slopes and ranges, and along the north coast. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds, becoming fresh to strong and gusty in the west and south.Friday 19 JulyAreas of rain in central and eastern parts, most widespread along the western slopes of the ranges and falling as snow on the Alps above 1500 metres by the end of the day. Isolated showers elsewhere. Fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds, turning more westerly later.Saturday 20 JulyIsolated showers over the eastern half of the state, tending scattered over the slopes and ranges and falling as snow above 800 metres by the end of the day. Fine across the western inland. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest to northwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDN10031
