Australia -- South Australia Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge of high pressure over eastern Australia. A low south of WA will intensify as it moves south of the Bight today, then weaken as it moves eastwards to be over the Tasman Sea on Saturday. A new high will develop south of the Bight during the later part of the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA band of rain in the far west will extend eastwards across the State to reach central districts late afternoon and evening. Some patchy rain reaching eastern districts late in the evening. Rain clearing from western parts during the afternoon and evening, with isolated showers developing about the coasts later. Possible thunderstorms developing about the coasts west of Kangaroo Island. Possible early fog patches over the Riverland and south of the Northeast Pastoral. Mild to warm with fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds.Thursday 18 JulyAreas of rain east of about Woomera to Kingscote contracting east and clearing during the afternoon. Lengthy fine periods initially following the rain before isolated showers develop, from the west, over the agricultural area and southern pastoral districts. Showers are more likely to be scattered about coastal districts and the ranges. Possible thunderstorms in the south. Cool to mild with fresh to strong and gusty northwest to southwesterly winds.Friday 19 JulyWidespread showers about southern coasts and ranges with scattered showers over remaining agricultural areas and isolated showers extending over the pastoral districts south of about Coober Pedy and Leigh Creek. Possible small hail with heavier showers in the south. Cool to cold. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 20 JulyShowers easing over agricultural areas and southern Pastoral districts. Possible morning thunderstorms with small hail, mainly about southern agricultural areas. Generally cool with moderating southwest to southerly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals for the period Wednesday morning through to midnight Saturday are expected to range from less than 5 mm over northern Pastoral districts, to 5 to 15 mm over the southern Pastoral districts and northern agricultural area, and 15 to 30 mm about southern agricultural areas. Falls totalling 30 to 50 mm are possible about the coasts and the Mt Lofty and southern Flinders Ranges.Sunday until TuesdayIsolated showers over the agricultural area and the southern Pastoral districts gradually contracting to southern agricultural areas early next week. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds turning light to moderate northerly in the west later in the period.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm CST Wednesday.Product IDS10033
