Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong, slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over northeastern parts of New South Wales. A low pressure trough over the central parts of the state will weaken and slip to the south tomorrow. A more vigorous trough and associated cold front is expected to slowly cross the state from Thursday, developing into a deep low as it extends over into the Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers over ranges and slopes contracting to the south during the evening. Otherwise isolated showers over the eastern half of the state. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the northern inland, central ranges, Upper Hunter, Illawarra, Metropolitan and Northern Rivers. Fine in the far west. Light and variable winds in the west, and northeast to northwesterly winds in the east.Wednesday 17 JulyIsolated showers on the far North Coast and eastern slopes of the Northern Tablelands. Scattered showers about the eastern Riverina and the western slopes of the southern ranges, becoming isolated during the day. Fine elsewhere. Northerly winds, freshening in the west.Thursday 18 JulyRain areas developing in the west. Isolated showers over the southern slopes and ranges. Isolated showers on the north coast. Fine elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty in the west and south.Friday 19 JulyAreas of rain in central and eastern parts, most widespread along the western slopes of the ranges and falling as snow down to about 1500 metres by the end of the day. Isolated showers elsewhere. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 20 JulyIsolated showers over the eastern half of the state, tending scattered over the slopes and ranges and falling as snow below about 800m by the end of the day. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds. A southerly change is expected along the South Coast during the evening.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Wednesday.Product IDN10031
