MELBOURNE - Jul 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system over the central Tasman Sea extends a ridge westwards across southern New South Wales to South Australia. This system will drift slowly eastwards on Tuesday and Wednesday. A low pressure system will deepen over waters south of the Bight during Wednesday with an associated front approaching western Victoria Wednesday night. The front will cross Victoria on Thursday as the low passes near the southwest coast. Another front will cross the State on Friday, with cold and unstable west to southwesterly winds extending throughout. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers or drizzle patches mainly about the ranges and coast tonight. Generally light winds.Tuesday 16 JulyIsolated showers or drizzle patches mainly on the northern slopes of the dividing range, scattered about the Northeast. Morning fog patches. A generally mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds.Wednesday 17 JulyIsolated showers or drizzle patches mainly on the northern slopes of the dividing range, scattered about the Northeast. Fine elsewhere during the day apart from morning fog patches. A band of rain reaching the far western border area at night. A mild day with northerly winds freshening over western and central districts.Thursday 18 JulyA band of rain extending eastwards across the State reaching the far east at night. Scattered showers to follow, mainly in the south. Generally mild with a strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds.Friday 19 JulyRain in the east clearing eastwards during the morning, but scattered showers to follow over all districts. Possible hail and thunder near the southwest coast and snowfalls down to 1200 metres.
