Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for east coastal waters
between Torres Strait and Bowen.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of
Kowanyama.

Weather Situation
A high [1030 hPa] over the western reaches of the Tasman Sea extends a firm
ridge along Queensland's east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers over eastern Queensland, tending
scattered near the Sunshine and Fraser coasts and also about the North Tropical
Coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west. Temperatures well above
average over the interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh to strong
along the tropical east coast and far north.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea while an upper trough will
move towards western Queensland. Isolated showers over eastern Queensland will
tend scattered about the North Tropical Coast. It will remain fine and mostly
sunny over the remainder of the state, with temperatures remaining above average
over the interior. An approaching upper level trough is expected to produce some
patchy light rain late in the day over the far southwest. Strong SE winds across
the northern tropics, and mostly moderate to fresh SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The high will slowly move east over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend a
moist onshore flow with isolated showers over eastern districts. Showers will
tend scattered about the North Tropical Coast and Central Coast. The upper
trough will move into southwestern Queensland with patchy rain and at least
isolated thunderstorms over the southern interior.  Mainly isolated showers also
developing over the southeast interior.  Remaining fine and mostly sunny over
the central interior and the northwest, and temperatures remaining well above
average in the interior. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds will continue across the
far northern tropics with generally moderate to fresh SE to NE'ly winds
elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high in the Tasman will maintain a firm ridge and showers over
Queensland's coastal districts, and more isolated showers are also possible
about the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high should linger near New Zealand, maintaining showers about
Queensland's eastern districts. A new upper trough and cold front should move
eastwards across Queensland's southern interior, producing showers, some rain
areas and thunderstorms as it progresses.
