the east Queensland coast. The high will remain slow moving and gradually weaken
over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers over eastern districts, tending scattered
about the North Tropical Coast. Fine in the west. Moderate to fresh SE to NE
winds across most of the state, strong and gusty at times along the tropical
coast and across the northern tropics. A Very High fire danger in the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders district.
Forecast for Friday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers and/or areas of drizzle over eastern
Queensland, tending scattered near the southern Queensland coast and also about
the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny in the west, with warm NE'ly
winds maintaining temperatures well above the July average. Strong and gusty
SE'ly winds tending to ease over the far southern tropics but remaining moderate
to fresh SE to NE'ly elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea as an upper
trough amplifies over Western Australia. The continuing moist onshore flow will
maintain partly cloudy with isolated showers and/or areas of drizzle over
eastern Queensland. Showers will tend scattered near the southern Queensland
coast and also about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny will
prevail in the west, with warm NE'ly winds continuing to maintain temperatures
well above the July average. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds will tend to contract
to the northern tropics during the day but remain moderate to fresh SE to NE'ly
elsewhere. High cloud will develop in the far southwest during the day.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to remain over the southern Tasman Sea while the upper
trough will move towards western Queensland. Isolated showers over eastern
Queensland will tend scattered about the North Tropical Coast. It will remain
fine and mostly sunny in the northwest, with warm NE'ly winds continuing to
maintain temperatures well above the July average. Over the southwest and
southern interior, the upper level trough is expected to increase middle and
high level cloud with patchy light rain and isolated showers expected to spread
over these areas. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds will continue across the far
northern tropics with generally moderate to fresh SE to NE'ly winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The high will slowly move over the Tasman Sea and continue to extend a moist
onshore flow with isolated showers over eastern districts. Showers will tend
scattered about the North Tropical Coast and Central Coast. The upper trough
will move into southwestern Queensland with cloud and patchy rain extending east
during the day. With increasing instability in the far southwest of the state
there will be a possibility of isolated thunderstorms in this area. It will
remain fine and partly cloudy about the northwest of the state with temperatures
remaining well above the July average. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds will
continue across the far northern tropics with generally moderate to fresh SE to
NE'ly winds elsewhere.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea towards
New Zealand maintaining the firm ridge along most of the east Queensland coast
during the outlook period. This is expected to maintain mostly cloudy conditions
with isolated to scattered showers over eastern Queensland and further inland
assisted by increasing instability produced by the upper trough moving slowly
east over the state. The upper trough will trigger areas of rain and possible
local thunder in the southern districts. Generally moderate to fresh SE to NE'ly
winds across the state, with stronger E to SE'ly winds across the far northern
tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
