Weather Situation
A high over southeastern Australia is expected to strengthen as it moves
eastwards across the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast
of Queensland. A weak upper level trough over the southwest of the state will
move eastwards across the southern interior today.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, extending further
inland into the eastern interior during the day. More frequent showers along the
northeast tropical coast and about the southeast coast. Early drizzle areas are
likely about the ranges in the tropical interior as the moist low level flow
penetrates further inland. High cloud extending eastwards across the south of
the state is expected to generate patchy light rain about the Channel Country
and southern Maranoa and Warrego district. Moderate E to SE winds across most of
the state, fresh and gusty about much of the east coast and across the northern
tropics. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest and Northern Goldfields and
Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should remain slow moving over the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm
ridge and fresh to strong and gusty SE'ly winds along the east Queensland coast.
Isolated showers are expected to continue over eastern districts in the moist
onshore wind flow, tending scattered about parts of the coast. Early drizzle
areas likely about the ranges in the tropical interior. The weak upper trough
should push off the east coast, clearing the cloud from inland areas. Fine and
mostly sunny conditions in the west with temperatures increasing as winds tend a
warmer NE'ly.
Forecast for Friday
The high should remain over the western Tasman Sea and gradually weaken
during the day, with strong and gusty winds beginning to ease over central
waters. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the east coast in the
onshore flow, tending scattered about the northeastern tropics with early
drizzle areas likely about the ranges in the tropical interior of the state.
Fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west with warm NE'ly winds maintaining
temperatures well above the July average through western Queensland.
Forecast for Saturday
The high is expected to remain slow moving over the western Tasman Sea and
will maintain fresh to strong winds about much of the east coast of Queensland.
Isolated showers will therefore persist about much of the east coast and
adjacent inland, with scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast and early
drizzle areas likely about the ranges in the tropical interior of the state.
Possible early morning frost over the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions in the west with temperatures continuing to be above the July average
over much of the interior, particularly in the west, due to warm NE'ly winds.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will is expected to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and
weaken, with strong SE'ly winds gradually contracting to far northern tropical
waters. Isolated showers should continue over eastern districts in the moist
onshore wind flow, more frequent about the north tropical coast. High cloud is
expected to increase through the southern interior with some patchy light rain
on Sunday and Monday due to the passage of an upper level trough. N to NE'ly
winds should maintain warm conditions over western districts during Sunday.
Showers may increase a little around the southeast early next week as the flow
tends a moist, more unstable easterly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
