MELBOURNE - Jul 9/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for east coastal waters between Torres Strait and Burnett Heads. A Strong Wind Warning is current for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Kowanyama. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over southeastern Australia is expected to strengthen move eastwards across the Tasman Sea during Wednesday maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A weak upper level trough over the southwest of the state will move eastwards into the southeast of the state on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Mostly cloudy over the northeastern tropics with isolated to scattered showers. Partly cloudy over remaining eastern districts with only isolated showers, mostly about the coast. Mostly cloudy over the southwest and southern interior with some patchy light rain across the far southwest of the state. Moderate E to SE winds across most of the state fresh and gusty about much of the east coast and across the northern tropics. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, extending further inland into the eastern interior during the day. More frequent showers along the northeast tropical coast and about the southeast coast. Early drizzle areas are likely about the ranges in the tropical interior as the moist low level flow penetrates further inland. High cloud extending eastwards across the south of the state but only patchy light rain about the southwest and southern Maranoa and Warrego district. Moderate E to SE winds across most of the state, fresh and gusty about much of the east coast and across the northern tropics. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. Forecast for Thursday The high should remain slow moving over the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and fresh to strong and gusty SE'ly winds along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers are expected to continue over eastern districts in the moist onshore wind flow, tending scattered about parts of the coast. Early drizzle areas likely about the ranges in the tropical interior. The weak upper trough should push off the east coast, clearing the cloud from inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west. A warm NE'ly wind flow should result in maximum temperatures about 5 degrees above the July average in western Queensland. Forecast for Friday The high should remain over the western Tasman sea and gradually weaken during the day, easing strong and gusty winds over southern and central waters. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the east coast in the onshore flow and are still likely to be scattered about the northeastern tropics and southern coastal parts. Early drizzle areas are again likely about the ranges in the tropical interior of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west. The warm NE'ly wind flow will most likely maintain temperatures well above the July average through western Queensland. Forecast for Saturday The high is expected to remain slow moving over the western Tasman Sea and will maintain fresh to strong winds about much of the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers will therefore persist about much of the east coast and adjacent inland, with scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast. Early drizzle areas are again likely about the ranges in the tropical interior of the state. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures will continue to be above the July average over much of the interior, particularly in the west, due to warm NE'ly winds. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high will most likely move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea though should weaken during with strong SE'ly winds gradually contracting to far northern tropical waters. Isolated showers should continue over eastern districts in the moist onshore wind flow, more frequent about the north tropical coast. High cloud is expected to increase through the southern interior on Sunday and Monday due to the passage of an upper level trough. Some patchy light rain is expected with this cloud in the southwest. N to NE'ly winds should maintain warm conditions over western districts during Sunday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
