MELBOURNE - Jul 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for east coastal waters between Torres Strait and Yeppoon today, extending south to Burnett Heads from early Tuesday. A Strong Wind Warning is current for Northeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Weipa today, extending to remaining waters north of Cape Keer-Weer from very early Tuesday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A near stationary surface trough lies through the tropical and central interior of the state and will gradually weaken during Tuesday. A slow moving high [1035 hPa] over southeastern Australia is expected to strengthen overnight and during Tuesday, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. An upper level trough will approach the southwestern corner of the during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Mostly cloudy over the northeastern tropics with isolated to scattered showers, more frequent near the coast. Partly cloudy over remaining eastern districts though with just the chance of isolated light showers north from about the Wide Bay and Burnett. High cloud increasing in the southwest of the state during the rest of day but little to no rain expected. Fine and mostly sunny over remaining western parts. A Very High fire danger over the North West, Channel Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds over the east tropical and central coast. Moderate to fresh and gusty S to SE winds over the remaining east coast and through western Queensland. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday Mostly cloudy over the northeastern tropics with isolated to scattered showers, most frequent about the coast during the morning. Partly cloudy over the remaining eastern districts with only isolated showers, again most likely about the coast. Cloud will increase further from the west and through the southern interior with a little patchy light rain across the far southeast of the state. Early frost patches are expected through the Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. A Very High fire danger over the North West, Channel Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Strong and gusty SE'ly winds over the northern Gulf waters and about the east coast north of Burnett Heads. Moderate to fresh and gusty E to SE winds over the remaining east coast and over the interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high will move slowly southeast through the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and fresh to strong SE'ly winds over the east coast and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. The upper trough to the west will weaken as it moves east over southern Queensland, extending patchy high cloud east with its passage. Little if any rain is expected with this cloud over the southern interior. The moist E to SE'ly wind flow through eastern districts will result in isolated showers, more frequent along the northeast tropical coast and about southeast coast. Early drizzle areas are expected about the ranges in the southeast due to the moist onshore flow. Forecast for Thursday The high will remain slow moving over the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and fresh to strong and gusty SE'ly winds along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue over eastern districts in the moist onshore wind flow, tending scattered about parts of the coast. Some cloud will persist through the southern interior of the state though with little to no rainfall expected. Early drizzle areas likely about the ranges in the southeast and central interior of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in the northwest. A warm NE'ly wind flow will most likely result in maximum temperatures about 5 degrees above the July average in western Queensland. Forecast for Friday The high will remain over the western Tasman sea and will gradually weaken during the day, easing strong and gusty winds over southern and central waters. The weak upper trough will push off the east coast, clearing the cloud from inland areas. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the east coast in the SE'ly flow and are still likely to be scattered about the northeastern tropics and southern coastal parts. Early drizzle areas are again likely about the ranges in the southeast of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west. The warm NE'ly wind flow will maintain temperatures well above the July average through western Queensland. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The high will most likely remain slow moving over the Tasman Sea though should weaken during the outlook period, with strong SE'ly winds gradually contracting to far northern tropical waters. Isolated showers will continue over eastern districts in the moist onshore wind flow, more frequent about the north tropical coast. High cloud is expected to increase through the southern interior again from Saturday associated with the passage of an upper level trough. Some patchy light rain is expected with this cloud in the southwest. N to NE'ly winds should maintain warm conditions over western districts during the outlook period.
