MELBOURNE - Jul 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning has been issued for the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown for Saturday evening. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is moving across southern Queensland and is expected to reach the southeast coast this evening. This trough will then move north through the Wide Bay coast on Saturday and stall in the Capricorn zone late in the day. A ridge of higher pressure will develop across northern New South Wales during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers about most of the east coast, very isolated showers over inland eastern districts this afternoon or evening. Fine further west with light to moderate southwest to southeast winds. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds towards eastern districts. Moderate to fresh southeast winds over the tropics. Forecast for Saturday The ridge of higher pressure will form across northern New South Wales as the coastal trough moves north through the Wide Bay District and eventually stall in the Capricorn zone. Inland the trough also stalls over the central interior. Showers persist about the east coast but develop further in the Wide Bay Burnett region south of the trough. Extensive early fog areas over eastern districts and possible frost in the Granite Belt district. Fine over the interior, dry in the west. Fine also for the southeast region. Freshening southeast winds to strong wind force on the northeast tropical coast. Moderate to fresh southeast winds generally over the tropics, light to moderate southwest to southeast winds over the interior. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds about the east coast. A high to very high fire danger in the west of the state. Forecast for Sunday Much the same pattern as Saturday with showers about most of the east coast. Isolated showers extending inland to the central west from the Wide Bay district. Fine over the remainder of the state. Strong winds extending further south along the northeast tropical coast. Once again extensive early fog areas over eastern districts. Possible early frost in the Granite Belt. Forecast for Monday The next high cell intensifies and moves southeast into southern New South Wales. This generates stronger southeasterly winds along the Queensland east coast with strong winds south to about St Lawrence. Strong winds also developing over into the northern Gulf waters. Showers continuing about the east coast, more extensive over the southeast region. Some early frost in the Granite Belt. Fine and sunny further west. Forecast for Tuesday The high cell moves off the southern New South Wales coast but continues to intensify. Strong southeast winds continue to blow along the Queensland coast north of St Lawrence and over northern Gulf waters. Showers again about the east coast. Fine over the interior apart from patchy light rain developing in the southwest of the state late in the day. Early frost developing near Roma and over the Granite Belt. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday As the high cell moves further southeast winds will actually weaken about the east coast of Queensland with strong winds contracting north to about Cardwell. The patchy rain sinks into New South Wales and does not reach the east coast of Queensland. Showers continue about the east coast and associated inland districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
