Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies along Queensland's east coast. A cold
front is expected to move across southern Queensland during today.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers about parts of the east coast and also about the central and
southeast interior. Dry and sunny in the far west. Light to moderate SE winds
about the northern tropics, fresh at times about the northeast coast. Light and
variable winds about the remainder of the state ahead of a moderate to fresh
west to southwest change spreading eastwards across the southern districts
during the day.
Forecast for Saturday
A ridge of high pressure should build across southern Australia, pushing dry
and slightly cooler air across the southern districts, and resulting in fine and
mostly sunny conditions in the region. Further north mainly isolated showers are
expected along the east coast north of about Bundaberg. A trough over Papua New
Guinea should work with the ridge over Central Australia to increase the onshore
winds and showers about the Peninsula district. Isolated thunderstorms are also
possible over Torres Strait and northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Areas
of morning frost about the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge should strengthen over southern Australia, and it, along with the
tropical trough over Papua New Guinea should result in fresh to strong winds and
scattered showers along the east coast north of Cardwell, and isolated
thunderstorms are possible across the far northern Peninsula district.
Freshening winds and increasing showers are also expected about the central
coast regions. More isolated showers in the weaker onshore flow are expected
about the Capricornia and Wide Bay districts. Areas of morning frost about the
Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
A strong high pressure system over southern Australia should work with the
trough near Papua New Guinea to maintain fresh to strong winds and showers over
the eastern districts. Isolated showers may also penetrate inland to the eastern
Darling Downs and central highlands area during the afternoon. It should remain
fine and mostly sunny in the west. Areas of morning frost about the Granite
Belt.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A strong high should drift across southeast Australia and into the Tasman
Sea, maintaining an onshore flow and showers about Queensland's far eastern
districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
