MELBOURNE - Jul 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over eastern Victoria will rapidly move out over the Tasman Sea this morning. A deep and complex low pressure system will pass south of Tasmania during Friday and Saturday morning with a cold, vigorous and unstable westerly airstream affecting Victoria. Another somewhat weaker cold front is expected to cross Tasmania on Sunday and a ridge of high pressure will lie over New South Wales. A strong high pressure system will move over western Victoria on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers in the southwest and about the northeast highlands and isolated showers elsewhere. Local hail. Snowfalls down to 800 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible along the coast. A generally cold day with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds, gale force at first near the coast and in Alpine regions.Saturday 6 JulyScattered showers about the southwest and central coasts. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1000m. Mostly dry and clear in the north. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times about the coast.Sunday 7 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, scattered about the southwest and central coasts. Snowfalls down to 1100m. Fine in the northwest. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh northwest winds, strong at times near the coast and shifting west to southwest in the far southwest later.Monday 8 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, scattered near the coast and clearing from the west. Snowfalls down to 1100m.
