Weather Situation
A weak high [1021 hPa] over the northern Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge
along Queensland's east coast. A cold front is moving eastwards through central
Australia and will approach far southwestern Queensland this evening.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated light showers along the east coast and adjacent inland north of
Brisbane. Areas of drizzle developing about the central highlands and southeast
inland. Dry and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate SE winds along the east coast,
tending light to moderate NE to NW inland.

Isolated showers along the east coast and adjacent inland. Areas of morning
drizzle about the southeast interior and the Central Highlands and Coalfields,
with isolated showers developing in the afternoon, tending scattered about the
southeast. Dry and sunny in the far west.
Forecast for Saturday
A ridge of high pressure should build across southern Australia, pushing dry
and slightly cooler air across the southern districts, and resulting in fine and
mostly sunny conditions. Further north mainly isolated showers are expected
along the east coast north of Fraser Island. A trough over Papua New Guinea
should work with the ridge over Central Australia to cause freshening easterly
winds and increasing showers about the Peninsula district, and isolated
thunderstorms are possible over Torres Strait and northern reaches of Cape York
Peninsula.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge should strengthen over southern Australia, and it, along with the
tropical trough over Papua New Guinea should result in fresh to strong winds and
scattered showers along the east coast north of Cardwell, and isolated
thunderstorms are possible across the far northern Peninsula district.
Freshening winds and increasing showers are also expected about the central
coast regions. More isolated showers in the weaker onshore flow are expected
about the Capricornia and Wide Bay districts.
Forecast for Monday
A large area of high pressure over southern Australia will maintain the firm
ridge along the east coast of Queensland, with fresh to strong trade winds
producing isolated to scattered showers along the east coast and nearby inland.
Isolated showers may also penetrate inland to the eastern Darling Downs and
central highlands area during the afternoon. It should remain fine and mostly
sunny in the west.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A strong high should drift across southeast Australia and into the Tasman
Sea, maintaining an onshore flow and mainly isolated showers about Queensland's
far eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
