MELBOURNE - Jul 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high [1021 hPa] over the northern Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along Queensland's east coast. A cold front is moving eastwards through central Australia and will approach far southwestern Queensland this evening. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated light showers along the east coast and adjacent inland north of Brisbane. Areas of drizzle developing about the central highlands and southeast inland. Dry and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate SE winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate NE to NW inland. Forecast for Friday Isolated showers along the east coast and adjacent inland. Areas of morning drizzle about the southeast interior and the Central Highlands and Coalfields, with isolated showers developing in the afternoon, tending scattered about the southeast. Dry and sunny in the far west. Forecast for Saturday A ridge of high pressure should build across southern Australia, pushing dry and slightly cooler air across the southern districts, and resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions. Further north mainly isolated showers are expected along the east coast north of Fraser Island. A trough over Papua New Guinea should work with the ridge over Central Australia to cause freshening easterly winds and increasing showers about the Peninsula district, and isolated thunderstorms are possible over Torres Strait and northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Forecast for Sunday The ridge should strengthen over southern Australia, and it, along with the tropical trough over Papua New Guinea should result in fresh to strong winds and scattered showers along the east coast north of Cardwell, and isolated thunderstorms are possible across the far northern Peninsula district. Freshening winds and increasing showers are also expected about the central coast regions. More isolated showers in the weaker onshore flow are expected about the Capricornia and Wide Bay districts. Forecast for Monday A large area of high pressure over southern Australia will maintain the firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland, with fresh to strong trade winds producing isolated to scattered showers along the east coast and nearby inland. Isolated showers may also penetrate inland to the eastern Darling Downs and central highlands area during the afternoon. It should remain fine and mostly sunny in the west. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A strong high should drift across southeast Australia and into the Tasman Sea, maintaining an onshore flow and mainly isolated showers about Queensland's far eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
