Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high [1024 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along Queensland's
east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Areas of mainly morning drizzle and isolated showers over the southeast
districts and the Central Highlands and Coalfields region. Mainly isolated
showers about the remaining far eastern districts. Dry and mostly sunny
elsewhere. Moderate SE winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate NE
to NW inland. Above average temperatures over the interior.
Forecast for Friday
A ridge over the Coral Sea should continue the onshore flow of moist air into
eastern Queensland, maintaining mainly isolated showers across the far eastern
districts. The moist flow should also help produce areas of mainly morning
drizzle about the southeast interior and the Central Highlands and Coalfields.
Meanwhile a cold front will move rapidly eastwards across southern Queensland
during the day, helping to produce scattered showers over the southeast inland.
Dry and sunny in the far west. A weak trough over the far north may produce
some isolated thunderstorms over Torres Strait.
Forecast for Saturday
A ridge of high pressure should build across southern Australia, pushing dry
and slightly cooler air across the southern districts, resulting in fine and
mostly sunny conditions. Further north mainly isolated showers are expected
across the northeast districts and the Central Coast and Whitsundays. A trough
over Papua New Guinea should work with the ridge over Central Australia to cause
freshening easterly winds and increasing showers about the Peninsula district,
and some isolated storms are possible over the Torres Strait and northern
reaches of Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge should strengthen over southern Australia, and it, along with the
tropical trough over Papua New Guinea should again result in fresh to strong
winds, scattered showers and isolated storms across the Peninsula district.
Fresh to strong winds and increasing showers are also expected about the
northeast and central coast regions. More isolated showers in the weaker
onshore flow about the Capricornia and Wide Bay districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A strong high should drift across southeast Australia and into the Tasman
Sea, maintaining an onshore flow and mainly isolated showers about Queensland's
far eastern districts. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
