Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front sliding south of Victoria this morning is causing a northwesterly airflow to strengthen across the State. A second cold front will reach western Victoria late this afternoon before rapidly crossing the State overnight. A deep and complex low pressure system will pass south of Tasmania during Friday and Saturday with a cold, vigorous and unstable westerly airstream affecting Victoria. More cold fronts will move across Tasmania during the weekend and a ridge of high pressure will lie over New South Wales.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in the southwest becoming scattered during the day and extending eastwards over southern and mountain districts at night. Isolated showers extending to northern districts during the evening. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the southwest. Snowfalls developing above 1500 metres. A cool to mild day with increasing cloud. Fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times in the south and about the ranges and shifting squally westerly in the west later.Friday 5 JulyScattered showers contracting to southern and mountain districts during the day and becoming isolated, although showers remaining more extensive near the southwest and central coasts. Local hail possible with showers and isolated thunderstorms possible about the coast. Snowfalls down to 800m. A cold day with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds, gale force at first near the coast and in Alpine regions.Saturday 6 JulyScattered showers about the southwest and central coasts. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1000m. Mostly dry and clear in the north. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times about the coast.Sunday 7 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, scattered about the southwest and central coasts. Snowfalls down to 1100m. Fine in the northwest. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh northwest winds, strong at times near the coast and shifting west to southwest in the far southwest later.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
