MELBOURNE - Jul 3/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1022 hPa] over central New South Wales extends a ridge over western Queensland and along the east coast. A complex low pressure system lies off the central and southeast coast of Queensland and is continuing to weaken. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers developing about the central and northeast tropical coasts this evening. Fine elsewhere, although becoming cloudy over the eastern inland. Moderate south to southeast winds about the east coast, light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the interior. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers or drizzle over the eastern inland, tending scattered about the Central and North Tropical Coasts in the morning. Dry and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate SE winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate NE to NW inland. A warm day over the south. Forecast for Friday The ridge along the east coast will weaken, although still maintain a relatively moist onshore flow. A cold front will move rapidly eastwards across southern Queensland during the day, reaching the Darling Downs and central west late in the day. This feature, combined with the relatively humid airmass, should lead to scattered showers over the southeast inland, tending more isolated in the onshore flow along the coast. Dry, cooler and sunny in the far west. Isolated to scattered showers should continue along the east coast in the onshore flow. A weak trough in the trade wind flow over the far north may produce one or two thunderstorms over Torres Strait. Forecast for Saturday The decaying cold front should move north along the Wide Bay coast and reach the Capricorn coast late in the day, while stalling over the central interior. Dry and slightly cooler conditions will spread over the southeast region as a new ridge of high pressure develops across New South Wales. Showers remain about the east coast north of the front and extend to the adjacent inland during the day. The trade wind trough should continue to produce a thunderstorm or two about Torres Strait. Forecast for Sunday The ridge over New South Wales will strengthen, with a large high developing over the centre of that state. This will lead to a strengthening of the ridge along the east coast of Queensland, with a freshening of the onshore flow, and trade wind flow becoming strong over coastal waters north of about Cooktown. Isolated to scattered showers are also likely along the entire east coast, with isolated showers spreading into the eastern inland. In the west, middle level cloudiness should increase over the Channel Country ahead of an upper level trough over central Australia, and some patchy light rain may develop. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Showers are likely to increase in the northeast tropics as a surge in the southeasterly trade flow moves north. At least isolated showers should continue along the remainder of the east coast and nearby inland in the onshore flow. The band of middle level cloud and light rain over the southwest is likely to slide away to the southeast rather than progressing too far east across southern Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
