Weather Situation
At 4am a high [1027 hPa] over South Australia extends a ridge into western
Queensland. A complex multi low pressure system occurs off the Southeast coast.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers near Southeast coast and developing about the Central and
Northeast tropical coasts later in the day. Dry and sunny over the interior,
chilly in the south this morning with some early frost. Moderate to fresh
southeast winds over the tropics. Moderate south to southeast east winds about
the east coast increasing to fresh to strong further south. Light to moderate
southeast winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire danger over some
eastern districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The weak high that was previously over New South Wales moves out to sea while
a cold front approaches South Australia. A trough moves across western
Queensland with no weather. Remaining dry over the interior but isolated showers
extending inland over eastern districts in the afternoon. Some early morning
drizzle areas also about eastern districts. Early frost confined to the Granite
Belt.
Forecast for Friday
The inland trough or Southwesterly wind change progresses east and reaches
the Southeast coast in the evening. Showers about the east coast with early
drizzle areas inland over many eastern districts. Isolated afternoon showers
through eastern districts, contracting eastwards with the trough passage. Dry,
cooler and sunny in the far west.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough now moves north along the Wide Bay coast and reaches the Capricorn
zone late in the day. Meanwhile the inland trough stalls over the central
interior. Dry and cooler over the southeast region with southwest winds as a
ridge of higher pressure develops across New South Wales. Showers remain about
the east coast north of the trough and extend inland during the day. Strong
southeasterly winds now develop over northeast tropical waters.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Showers increase in the northeast tropics as the trough moves north while
patchy rain develops in the west from a new cloud band. However this patchy rain
will sink south rather than reach the east coast. Showers will develop over the
southeast region by Tuesday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
