MELBOURNE - Jul 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Severe Weather Warning is current for damaging winds and dangerous surf in the Southeast Coast district. A Gale Warning is current for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Point Danger. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Gladstone and Burnett Heads. A Strong Wind Warning is current for Moreton Bay. A Strong Wind Warning is current for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1029 hPa] lies over South Australia and is expected to remain slow moving during the next 24 hours. At 10pm EST, a low [1005 hPa] was located off the southeast coast of Queensland, approximately 180 kilometres northeast of Cape Moreton. The low is expected to remain slow moving overnight before moving eastwards during Tuesday while weakening. An upper level trough and low is located off the southern Queensland coast. Forecast for the rest of Monday Fine and clear over most of the state. Cloudy with scattered squally showers and rain areas over the southeast. Isolated showers over the northeastern Peninsula district. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds for most parts, reaching strong to gale force and gusty with possible damaging wind gusts about parts of the southeast coast. Rough to dangerous surf conditions, which may cause significant beach erosion, is expected along parts of the southeast coast. Forecast for Tuesday Cloudy over the southeast with scattered squally showers and patchy rain near the southeast coast easing during the day. Cloudy with isolated showers and areas of low cloud and drizzle over the remainder of the southeast. Fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds for most parts. Winds reaching strong to gale force and gusty with possible damaging wind gusts about parts of the southeast coast, easing during the day. Rough to dangerous surf conditions, which may cause significant beach erosion, is expected along parts of the southeast coast but decreasing during the afternoon and evening. Forecast for Wednesday A weak area of high pressure should become established over northern New South Wales, whilst the low pressure system should continue to move to the southeast across the Tasman Sea. Most of the state should be fine and mostly sunny with only isolated showers about parts of the east coast in the onshore flow. Forecast for Thursday The area of high pressure should migrate over southeast Queensland and weaken with a surface trough expected to enter the west of the state later in the day. Isolated showers are expected about the east coast north of about Bundaberg in the onshore flow. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny and temperatures should increase over the western and southern interior ahead of the approaching trough. Forecast for Friday Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for some isolated showers about the southeast and also about the Peninsula district. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A new ridge of high pressure should establish itself over southern Australia resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions across Queensland except for some isolated showers about the northeast and central coasts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
