Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 30/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Gale Warning has been issued for coastal waters south of
Double Island Point for Monday.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for eastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Gladstone and Point
Danger, including Moreton Bay.

Weather Situation
A surface trough lies off the southern Queensland coast. A low pressure
system [1012 hPa] is embedded within the trough, approximately 100km east of
Fraser Island. The low is expected to deepen today and move slowly southwards to
be situated about 250 kilometres off the Sunshine Coast during Monday. A high
[1036 hPa] situated over the Great Australian Bight is slow moving, but should
strengthen today as it moves over South Australia. An upper level trough over
southwest Queensland will strengthen as it moves eastwards into southeast
Queensland during today and will remain situated over southeast Queensland on
Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine with clear skies over much of the north and west of the state with only
isolated showers in the far northeast Peninsula district. Cloudy with showers
and rain areas about the southeast of the state. Scattered showers about the
Darling Downs and Granite Belt district with isolated thunderstorms. Isolated
showers elsewhere about the southern interior and extending into southern
Central Highlands. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds for most
areas, strong and gusty about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the
southeast of the state. Moderate falls are likely about the far southeast of the
state. Cloudy with isolated showers and patchy light rain over the far eastern
Warrego and Maranoa and northern Wide Bay and Burnett. The upper level trough
should help to increase cloud cover over the Capricornia district late in the
day bringing some patchy light rain. Isolated showers along the northeast
tropical coast. Maximum temperatures are expected to be generally below average
across the state due to a combination of cloud cover and the cool S to SE
airflow.  A Very High fire danger in the Northwest District and Upper Flinders
and Goldfields districts.  Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds for
most parts, strong and gusty about he southeast coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high over southeast Australia is expected to weaken. The upper level
trough and low is expected to contract off the southeast coast during the day
and the surface trough and low pressure system should also move eastwards away
from the southern Queensland coast. Cloudy conditions should persist about the
southeast although showers are expected to gradually contract to coastal parts
during the day and ease. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur elsewhere
under the weakening ridge. Generally cool temperatures across the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak area of high pressure should become established about southeast
Queensland, whilst the low pressure system should continue to move to the
southeast across the Tasman Sea. Most of the state should be fine and mostly
sunny with only isolated showers about parts of the east coast in the onshore
flow.
Forecast for Thursday
The area of high pressure over southeast Queensland should gradually weaken
with a surface trough expected to enter the west of the state later in the day.
Isolated showers are expected about the east coast north of about Bundaberg in
the onshore flow. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny and
temperatures should increase over the western and southern interior ahead of the
approaching trough.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The surface trough is likely to move east across the state on Friday and
Saturday, clearing off the southeast coast early on Sunday. Another ridge should
developing across Queensland as a new high moves east across southern Australia.
Another cloud band may developing across central and southern parts of the state
over the weekend but at this stage little rainfall is expected.

Monday.
