WASHINGTON - Jun 28/13 - SNS -- Area seeded to spring wheat other than durum is estimated at 12.3 million acres, up slightly from 2012, according to the USDA seeded area estimates for 2013.

Of the total, about 11.7 million acres are Hard Red Spring wheat. Harvested area is expected to total 12.0 million acres, 1% below 2012. Crop development has been behind normal this spring primarily due to excessive moisture.

By May 26, 42% of the crop had emerged in the six major spring wheat-producing States, 24 percentage points behind the 5-year average. As of June 23, seventy% of the crop was rated in good to excellent condition, compared with 77% at the same time last year.
