MELBOURNE - Jun 25/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1032 hPa] southeast of Tasmania extends a ridge over central Australia and along the Queensland tropical east coast. A complex low pressure system over the western Tasman Sea extends a trough into the southeast inland of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Cloudy over southern border areas east of about St George, with isolated light showers west of the ranges. Isolated light showers over the far northeast coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times about the far north and southeast inland. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated light showers about the far northeastern Peninsula District. Some high cloud will extend across southern and central districts, but no rainfall is expected. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Remaining cool for most parts with some patchy early frost over the southern and central interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Thursday A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, maintaining fine conditions across most of the state. The low off the central New South Wales coast will continue to weaken as it moves eastwards across the northern Tasman Sea. Cloudy conditions continuing over the southern and southeast interior, and the possibility of some isolated light showers in the relatively moist southwest flow. Some isolated showers are likely to develop about the exposed coast and islands south of Bundaberg as a surface trough moves up the coast. Isolated light showers are also likely to persist about the northeast Peninsula. High cloud will extend across central districts due to a weak upper trough, but no rainfall is expected from this system. Forecast for Friday The high will steadily move across southern Australia, extending a ridge across Queensland and maintaining fine conditions across most of the state. Isolated to scattered showers are likely along the southern coast and nearby inland in a moist onshore flow, with cloudy conditions continuing over the southern and southeast interior with some isolated light showers possible. Forecast for Saturday The high will move only slowly eastwards across southern Australia, maintaining the ridge over eastern Queensland. Meanwhile an upper level trough will begin to amplify over southwestern Queensland, leading to some weak instability developing over the southern inland. This should lead to isolated afternoon showers over the southern inland, while scattered showers are likely along the southeast coast in the onshore flow. It should remain fine over the remainder of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The upper level trough should continue to strengthen as it moves slowly eastwards over southern Queensland. A surface trough is likely to deepen off the southern Queensland coast in response, leading to a freshening of the onshore flow, with increasing cloud and showers likely early in the new week along the southern Queensland coast and nearby inland. The probability of a significant low pressure system developing within this trough off the southern Queensland appears to be increasing. Cloudy conditions and at least isolated showers are also likely over the southeast inland near the upper trough. In the north, it should remain fine in most areas, although some light showers may return to the tropical east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
