Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 24/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1033 hPa] near Tasmania extends a firm ridge over Queensland. A
trough near the northern New South Wales coast will develop into a low pressure
system during Monday and then move slowly eastwards into the northern Tasman Sea
on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine conditions over most of the state. Isolated showers on the northeast
tropical coast. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh to strong
at times along northeast Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Tuesday
Cloud increasing over southern border areas, particularly east of about St
George, with isolated light showers developing west of the ranges during the
afternoon and evening. Isolated light showers over the far northeast coast. Fine
and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool to cold day over southeastern Queensland,
particularly in the far south, with extensive early frost over the southern and
central interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times about the far
north and southeast inland.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough and low off the central New South Wales coast should weaken as
they begin to move east, though the moist southwest flow is expected to continue
over the southeast border region with cloudy conditions and some light showers
possible over the Granite Belt area. The high will move southeast into the
Tasman Sea, with the ridge over Queensland beginning to weaken, though still
maintaining fine conditions across the remainder of the state. High cloud should
extend across southern and central districts due to a weak upper trough, though
no rainfall is expected from this system. Remaining cool for most parts with
extensive early frost over the southern and central interior.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, maintaining fine
conditions across most of the state. The low off the central New South Wales
coast will continue to weaken as it drifts east across the northern Tasman Sea,
with cloudy conditions continuing over the southern and southeast interior with
morning drizzle and isolated showers in the relatively moist southwest flow.
Some isolated showers are likely to develop about the exposed coast and islands
in the south as a surface trough moves up the coast. High cloud will extend
across central districts due to a weak upper trough, though no rainfall is
expected from this system.
Forecast for Friday
A relatively benign upper level pattern, combined with a developing ridge
over central eastern Australia should lead to fine conditions continuing over
most of the state. Isolated showers are likely along the southern coast and
nearby inland in moist onshore flow, while over the southern interior the
southerly flow may retain enough moisture to support isolated light showers.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist across most of the state as
the new high in the Great Australian Bight slowly tracks east across southern
Australia. Isolated showers may extend further inland into the southeast
interior through the outlook period as the flow tends a more moist, onshore
southeasterly. Temperatures should return closer to average across the state as
the wind flow tends a slightly warmer southeasterly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
