MELBOURNE - Jun 24/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong, slow moving high pressure system near Tasmania extends a ridge to the northern Tasman Sea and to northwestern New South Wales while a low pressure trough with a few small lows embedded in it lies along the coast. Some of the lows will cross the the southern half of the coast today and during Tuesday bringing heavy rain and strong winds there. The trough is expected to move east during Wednesday and Thursday as the high moves south strengthening the ridge across the western Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of MondayPartly cloudy in the western half and in the northeast apart from isolated showers on the far north coast. Rain on the southern half coast and ranges with possible local heavy and with snow showers on the ranges above 1300 metres. Isolated showers elsewhere tending scattered on the western slopes of the central and southern ranges. The chance of thunderstorms near the coast. South to southeast winds, strong along the central part of the coast. Dangerous surf conditions developing for the central and southern coast.Tuesday 25 JunePartly cloudy in the west, in the southeastern inland and on the north coast. Rain areas along central and southern coasts with possible local heavy falls. Isolated showers remainder tending scattered on the eastern ranges. Snow Showers on the Alps and possibly about the northern ranges above 1200 metres. South to southeast winds, strong along central parts of the coast. Dangerous surf conditions for the central and southern coast.Wednesday 26 JunePartly cloudy in the western and central inland. Rain areas near the southern half of the coast with the chance of thunderstorms. Scattered showers elsewhere tending isolated in the northeast and on western slopes of southern and central ranges. Southeast winds, fresh to strong along the coast. Dangerous surf conditions for the central and southern coast.Thursday 27 JuneScattered showers near the north coast tending isolated on the adjacent ranges. Isolated showers on the south coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. South to southeast winds, fresh on the north coast.Friday 28 JuneIsolated showers on the south and central coasts tending scattered near the coastal fringe in the north.
