Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between
Torres Strait and Cooktown on Monday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1036 hPa] near Tasmania extends a firm ridge over Queensland. The
high will peak in strength on Monday as it moves slowly southeast. A deepening
low near the northern New South Wales coast extends a trough northeastwards into
the southern Coral Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine, cool and clear across most of the state. Partly cloudy with some
isolated showers over the southeast and Fraser Island, and also about the
northeast tropics. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at
times along the northeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions over much of the state. Isolated showers on
the northeast tropical coast in the moist onshore flow and also about Fraser
Island, mainly during the morning. Remaining cool for most parts with extensive
early frost over the southern and central interior. Light to moderate southwest
to southeast winds, fresh to strong at times along the northeast coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The trough and low off the central New South Wales coast are expected to
deepen, causing an increase in moisture over the southern border region with
cloudy conditions east of about Cunnamulla and isolated showers over parts of
the far southern interior. The high will drift slowly southeast, with only
isolated showers over the far northeast coast in a weakening onshore flow,
otherwise conditions should remain fine. Cloud will increase in the west as a
weak upper trough approaches, though no rainfall is expected from this system.
Remaining cool for most parts with extensive early frost over the southern and
central interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough and low off the central New South Wales coast should weaken as
they begin to move east, though the moist southwest flow is expected to continue
over the southeast border region with cloudy conditions and some light showers.
The high will move southeast into the Tasman Sea, with the ridge over Queensland
beginning to weaken, though still maintaining fine conditions across the
remainder of the state. High cloud should extend across southern and central
districts due to a weak upper trough, though no rainfall is expected from this
system. Remaining cool for most parts with extensive early frost over the
southern and central interior.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, maintaining fine
conditions across most of the state. The low off the central New South Wales
coast will continue to weaken as it drifts east across the northern Tasman Sea,
with cloudy conditions continuing over the southern and southeast interior with
morning drizzle and isolated showers in the moist southwest flow. Some isolated
showers developing about the exposed coast and islands in the south as a surface
trough flicks up the coast. High cloud will extend across central districts due
to a weak upper trough, though no rainfall is expected from this system.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist across most of the state as
the new high in the Bight slowly tracks east across southeast Australia.
Isolated showers may extend into the southeast interior on Friday and Saturday
as the flow tends a more moist, onshore southeasterly. Temperatures returning
closer to average across the state as the wind flow tends a slightly warmer
easterly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
