MELBOURNE - Jun 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1022hPa] south of Tasmania extends a ridge across Queensland. The high is expected to strengthen during Saturday maintaining the ridge across Queensland. An upper level trough extends across the state and will contract off the southern and central coasts late this evening, and the tropical coast early Saturday morning. Forecast for the rest of Friday Rain areas about the southeast of the state, contracting slowly eastwards during the evening. Cloudy over the southern tropics and central districts although with little, if any, rainfall. Partly cloudy but mostly fine over the northern tropics, only some very isolated coastal showers about the eastern Peninsula coast. Fine and clear over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at times about the northeast. Forecast for Saturday Areas of early morning fog and low cloud over the southeast quarter of the state. Partly cloudy over the tropics but mostly fine with only isolated showers along the North Tropical Coast. Otherwise a fine and mostly sunny day for the remainder of the state. Generally cooler over southern districts with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Frost areas will also extend north into the central interior and west to about Quilpie. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at times about the northeast. Forecast for Sunday The high should remain near Tasmania and strengthen. Onshore flow across the north of the state may bring isolated showers to coastal parts of the northern tropics. An unstable airmass moving along the southern border should assist in afternoon cloud development over the far southern interior, although it should remain mostly fine with only the slight chance of isolated shower activity. Otherwise the dry southerly air flow persisting over much of the state should assist in maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts. Cool over much of the state with extensive early frost over many southern districts including the central interior. Forecast for Monday A trough is expected to form off the central New South Wales coast which is likely to increase the southwest wind flow into southern Queensland. The high should remain near stationary thus maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions over much of the state with only isolated showers on the northeast tropical coast in the onshore flow. Remaining cool for most parts with extensive early frost over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Tuesday The trough is expected to linger off the central New South Wales coast and may direct moister southwest flow over the southern border ranges. This may result in cloudy conditions along the southern border east of about Goodooga with possible morning drizzle areas, and isolated afternoon showers over parts of the far southern interior. The high should remain near stationary with only isolated showers over the far northern east coast in the onshore flow, otherwise conditions should be fine and partly cloudy. Remaining cool for most parts with extensive early frost over the southern and central interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state as the large should move only very slowly east and therefore maintain a ridge across Queensland. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast in the onshore flow. Isolated showers may brush exposed parts of the southern coast in the southerly flow on Wednesday. High cloud is likely to drift across central parts of the state as a weak upper trough moves across the state. Remaining cool with frosts likely to persist about the southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
