Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for southeastern Gulf of
Carpentaria waters.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high south of Tasmania extends a ridge into Queensland. An upper level
trough will move across southern Queensland today, contracting off the east
coast late this evening.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Cloudy and cool across much of the state, although fine and mostly sunny in
the far southwest. Rain areas about the southeast of the state will contract
slowly eastwards during the day with isolated showers developing in its wake
about the southeast interior. Patchy rain areas about the Central Highlands and
Central Coast. Little, if any, rainfall is expected elsewhere in the tropics and
interior of the state due to dry air beneath the cloud band. Isolated showers
about the northeast tropical coast. Strong southeast winds in the southern Gulf
of Carpentaria in the morning. Moderate southwest to southeast winds elsewhere,
fresh at times about the northeast.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper level trough will clear offshore during the early hours with the
cloud and rain band also clearing offshore. Fine and mostly sunny across most of
the state after early morning fogs in the southeast and southern interior.
Isolated showers in the northeast tropics. Generally cooler over southern
districts with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior.
Frost areas will also extend north into the central interior and west to about
Quilpie. Isolated showers may occur near the far southern border due to cloud
build up from New South Wales.
Forecast for Sunday
A ridge of higher pressure remains over western Queensland from a developing
high centre near Tasmania. Fine and mostly sunny over much of the state in the
dry southerly air flow. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics in the onshore
flow and isolated showers will persist near the southern border. Cool over much
of the state with extensive early frost over many southern districts including
the central interior.
Forecast for Monday
A low is expected to form off the central New South Wales coast which is
likely to increase the southwest wind flow into southern Queensland. Fine and
mostly sunny over much of the state with only isolated showers on the northeast
tropical coast. Remaining cool for most parts with extensive early frost over
the southern and central interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state as a large is likely to
develop over southern Australia. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical
coast. Isolated showers may brush exposed parts of the southern coast in the
southerly flow. High cloud is likely to drift across central parts of the state
as a weak upper trough moves across the state. Remaining cool with frosts likely
to persist about the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
