MELBOURNE - Jun 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow moving low pressure system lies near New Zealand and a high pressure system south of Tasmania extends a ridge northward over New South Wales. A low and upper level cold pool lies south of the Bight and will reach western NSW Friday, weakening the ridge across the state. The cold pool will move slowly east across northern NSW over the weekend with a trough deepening along the coast Saturday before another low develops just offshore on Sunday. At this stage the low is considered most likely to form off the central part of the coast or southern Mid North Coast though the forecast position is uncertain. The low may deepen further Sunday night and Monday and move only slowly to the north. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers along the coast. Possible light shower or two in the far west. Mostly cloudy elsewhere. Southerly winds along the coast, light winds west of the ranges. Dangerous surf.Friday 21 JuneIsolated showers along the coast and developing generally about the northeast. Isolated showers also developing in the far southwest late in the day. Possible light shower or two through most other districts. Early frost areas and fog patches about ranges, particularly in the south. Generally light winds. Dangerous surf.Saturday 22 JuneIsolated showers along central and southern parts of the coast, increasing. Isolated showers also in the far west with a possible light shower or two through much of the remainder of the inland. Southeast to northeast winds. Dangerous surf, easing in the south.Sunday 23 JuneRain about central and southern parts of the coast and eastern ranges with local moderate to heavy falls. Showers about the western slopes of the central ranges and possible isolated showers over most remaining western districts. South to southeast winds, fresh to strong along parts of the coast.Monday 24 JuneRain areas about much of the coast and eastern ranges with local moderate to heavy falls about the central part of the coast and Mid North Coast. Isolated showers about remaining eastern areas. Snow possible on the Northern Tablelands. Dry and partly cloudy in the west.
