Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1030 hPa] near Tasmania extends a ridge of high pressure across
Queensland. A low near New Zealand is gradually drifting eastwards and will be
located well to the east of New Zealand by late Thursday. The two systems are
combining to push dry and cool southeasterly to southwesterly winds across most
of Queensland. An upper trough is approaching the west of the state and will
move across western parts during Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
High cloud with little to no rainfall, but cloud clearing from the southwest
during the day. Cloudy with patchy light rain about the northern Peninsula.
Isolated showers near the coast over southeast parts of the state, extending to
reach the Capricornia Coast at night. Cloud increasing over the southeastern
interior with areas of rain developing during the evening. Early frost areas
over the southeast interior and parts of the central interior. Light to moderate
south to southwest winds, fresh at times along the northern coast.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough will move slowly east into central Queensland and extend a
cloud band with patchy rain areas across eastern and northern districts. Little
to no rainfall is expected across the northern interior. East to northeast winds
will increase moisture about the southeast of the state, leading to an increase
in rain over the Darling Downs, Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Fine
conditions are expected across southwestern districts due to a dry south to
southwesterly flow. A cool to cold day in rain areas. An upper atmosphere low
will move into South Australia late in the day.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper trough will move off the east coast early in the morning taking the
cloud and rain band out to sea. There may be some lingering patchy light rain
over the northern Peninsula and some isolated showers about the north tropical
coast. The upper low will move towards southwest Queensland leading to an
increase in instability and potential for isolated showers over southwestern
parts of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue across the
rest of the state. Widespread early frost areas over the central, southern and
southeastern interior. Possible early frost patches in the northwest.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper low will slowly move towards the east to be located over inland
northern New South Wales, leading to isolated showers about the southern inland
adjacent to the New South Wales border. Southeasterly trade flow will maintain
isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast and eastern Cape York Peninsula.
Fine and sunny conditions across the remainder of the state due to a ridge over
Central Australia and a dry southerly airstream. Widespread early frost areas
over the central, southern and southeast interior. Possible early frost patches
in the northwest.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The upper low will move off the northern New South Wales coast on Monday. A
new upper trough is expected to move into western parts on Tuesday and gradually
shift to eastern parts on Wednesday. Cloud is expected to increase over central
and southern parts of the state due to the trough but little to no rain is
expected. Early morning frost areas are expected to persist over the
southeastern and central inland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
