Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high south of the continent extends a ridge of high pressure across Central
Australia. A low is drifting gradually eastwards across the Tasman Sea. The two
systems are combining to push dry and cool S to SW winds across most of
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for some cloudy periods about
the southern districts and some isolated showers over the northern reaches of
Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at
times along the northern coast.
Forecast for Monday
The ridge should persist across Central Australia maintaining a flow of dry
and cool southerly winds across most of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny about
much of the state except for some patchy rain areas over the northern parts of
the Peninsula district. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern and
southeast interior, and also about parts of the central interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The ridge will persist over much of Queensland with a flow of cool, mainly
dry southerly winds across most of the state. Fine and mostly sunny across most
of the state except for some patchy rain areas over the northern parts of the
Peninsula district. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern and
southeast interior, and also about parts of the central interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The ridge will persist over much of Queensland while the low pressure system
in the Tasman Sea should deepen as it moves eastwards. Both weather systems
will cause rising swells about the exposed parts of the southeast coast.
Remaining fine and mostly sunny across most of Queensland except for some
isolated showers about the Peninsula district. There is also just the chance of
some isolated showers about the islands and exposed coast over the state's
southeast as winds freshen. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern
and southeast interior, and also about parts of the central interior.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
An upper level trough will extend a cloud band and patchy rain areas across
western Queensland, extending eastwards during Friday and Saturday. A new high
over the Great Australian Bight should push another round of cool southerly
winds across Queensland late in the week and this, along with the cloud band
should result in cold daytime temperatures across much of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
