Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from
Lockhart River to Cairns.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge of
high pressure across Central Australia. A low in the Tasman Sea will remain
slow moving whilst deepening over the next 24 hours. The two systems are
combining to push cool S to SW winds across the state.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine and mostly clear across the state except for isolated showers about the
southeast interior and the far northern coast. Mostly moderate southwest to
southeast winds, fresh about parts of the coast.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for isolated showers about the
coast in the far northeast and patchy light rain in Torres Strait. Early frost
over the southeast interior. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds,
fresh at times along the northern coast.
Forecast for Monday
The ridge should persist across Central Australia maintaining a flow of dry
and cool southerly winds across most of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny about
much of the state with only isolated showers about the northern Peninsula
district. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern and southeast
interior, and also about parts of the central interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The ridge will persist over much of Queensland with a flow of cool, mainly
dry southerly winds across most of the state. Fine and mostly sunny across most
of the state except for some isolated showers about the Peninsula district.
Areas of morning frost about the remainder of the southern and southeast
interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The ridge will persist over much of Queensland as the high remains slow
moving to the west of Tasmania. The low pressure system in the Tasman Sea moves
towards New Zealand. The flow of cool, mainly dry southerly winds across the
state continues. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state except for some
isolated showers about the Peninsula district. Isolated showers are possible
about the southeast coast as the flow turns more towards the south to southeast.
Increasing winds and swell along the southern coast. Areas of morning frost
about the remainder of the southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The ridge of high pressure should finally move eastwards across southern
Australia later in the week allowing an onshore wind flow and isolated showers
to redevelop along parts of the east coast. An upper level trough will extend a
cloud band and patchy rain areas across western Queensland, extending eastwards
during Friday and Saturday and possibly intensifying.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
