MELBOURNE - Jun 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Lockhart River to Cairns. A Strong Wind Warning is current for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge of high pressure across Central Australia. A low in the Tasman Sea will remain slow moving whilst deepening over the next 24 hours. The two systems are combining to push cool S to SW winds across the state. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for isolated showers and drizzle areas about the southern and southeast interior and some isolated showers about the coast over the state's far northeast. Daytime temperatures below average across the southern half of the state. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds about the tropics and the western districts. Light to moderate south to southwest about the state's southeast and over the southern interior, fresh and gusty at times about the southeast. Forecast for Sunday A ridge of high pressure should persist over Central Australia maintaining fine, cool and partly cloudy conditions across most of the state. Some isolated showers about the east coast of the Peninsula district with some patchy rain areas through the Torres Strait. Areas of morning frost over the southeast and southern interior. Forecast for Monday The ridge should persist across Central Australia maintaining a flow of dry and cool southerly winds across most of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny about much of the state with only isolated showers about the northern Peninsula district. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern and southeast interior, and also about parts of the central interior. Forecast for Tuesday The ridge will persist over much of Queensland with a flow of cool, mainly dry southerly winds across most of the state. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state except for some isolated showers about the Peninsula district. Areas of morning frost about the remainder of the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state mid week. The ridge of high pressure should finally move eastwards across southern Australia later in the week allowing an onshore wind flow and isolated showers to redevelop about the southeast coast of Queensland from around Thursday. An upper level trough also looks set to extend a cloud band and patchy rain areas across western Queensland from Thursday, extending across most of the remainder of Queensland by the end of the working week and possibly intensifying. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
