Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Lockhart River to Cairns for Saturday morning. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Saturday morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge of high pressure across Central Australia. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine and clear over most of the state apart from some isolated showers about the coast over the state's far northeast and areas of drizzle forming in the evening across the far southern interior. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds about the tropics and the western districts. Light to moderate about the state's southeast and over the southern interior. Forecast for Saturday Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for some areas of morning drizzle about the southern interior and some isolated showers about the coast over the state's far northeast. Daytime temperatures below average across the southern half of the state and patchy areas of morning frost over the southeast and southern interior. Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds about the tropics and the western districts. Light to moderate about the state's southeast and over the southern interior, fresh to strong at times during the day, particularly about the ranges. Forecast for Sunday A ridge of high pressure should persist over Central Australia maintaining fine, cool and partly cloudy conditions across most of the state. Some isolated showers about the east coast of the Peninsula district. Areas of morning frost over the southeast and southern interior. Forecast for Monday The ridge should persist across Central Australia maintaining a flow of dry and cool southerly winds across most of Queensland. Widespread areas of early frost over the southern and southeast interior, and also about parts of the central interior. Isolated showers about the Peninsula district. Forecast for Tuesday A flow of cool, mainly dry southerly winds should persist across most of Queensland. Areas of morning frost about the remainder of the southern and southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state except for some isolated showers about the Peninsula district. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state mid week. The ridge of high pressure should finally move eastwards across southern Australia later in the week allowing an onshore wind flow and isolated showers to redevelop about the southeast coast of Queensland from around Thursday. An upper level trough also looks set to extend a cloud band across western Queensland from mid week, extending across most of the remainder of Queensland by the end of the working week. At least patchy areas of rain should develop within this cloud band, but heavy or even moderate falls are unlikely over most areas. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
