MELBOURNE - Jun 13/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Friday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough lying through the eastern Capricornia District to the Sunshine Coast area will move offshore this evening. A high in the Great Australian Bight will strengthen during Friday and extend a ridge across most of Queensland whilst a deep low will develop in the Tasman Sea. Cooler south to southwest winds will extend across most of the state over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated showers about eastern coastal districts, mainly south of Bowen. Generally fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state, although mostly cloudy skies will persist over the southern and southeast interior with some . Moderate to fresh southeast winds over the tropics. Mostly moderate west to southwest winds, tending southerly over the northwest of the state. Forecast for Friday Fine and mostly sunny across much of the state however cloudy conditions will persist over the south of the state with some early drizzle or isolated afternoon showers over parts of the southern Darling Downs and southern Maranoa district. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics. Generally cooler over much of the state with some early frost possible in the Granite Belt. Strong southeast winds over southern Gulf waters in the morning. Moderate SW to SE winds across the state, fresh at times in the tropics. Forecast for Saturday The low over the southwest Tasman Sea should continue to deepen and remain slow moving. This will maintain the deep dry and cool south to southwesterly flow over most of Queensland. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics and early drizzle or isolated showers over the southern Darling Downs. Some early frost over the Granite Belt and near Roma. Remaining dry over most of the state. Strong southeast winds over the southern Gulf waters early and developing along the northeast tropical coast in the afternoon. Forecast for Sunday The low in the Tasman Sea will continue to deepen and move slowly to the southeast whilst a ridge will extend across most of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny over much of the state with cool conditions over most of Queensland. A little patchy light rain in the northeast tropics in response to a week upper trough. Generally colder temperatures with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Monday The low in the Tasman Sea will continue to move slowly to the southeast whilst deepening further. A high to the southwest of Perth will continue to extend a ridge across most of Queensland. Most of the state will remain fine and mostly sunny with only some patchy high cloud across the south of the state. Remaining cool across most of the state with frost areas becoming more widespread about the southern and central interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Most of the state will remain fine and mostly sunny through the outlook period as a high in the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge across much of the state. Frost areas will persist about the southern interior in the cool airmass. Patchy rain is expected to continue about the far northeast of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
