MELBOURNE - Jun 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over northern Victoria is expected to move eastwards overnight and weaken. Another low is expected to develop off the Gippsland coast early Thursday morning. This low will move slowly eastwards on Friday and will be centred over the Tasman Sea during the weekend. Meanwhile, the next high pressure system over the Bight will be blocked by the low and will pass to the south of Tasmania during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain contracting to southern districts tonight with some heavy falls developing over Gippsland. Isolated showers to follow over the north, and the risk of thunderstorms near the northern border. Generally light to moderate southeast to southerly winds.Thursday 13 JuneWidespread rain over Gippsland with heavy falls likely. Rain also over parts of south central Victoria and over the northeast with scattered showers elsewhere. Snow developing about the Alpine peaks. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the far southeast. A cool day with generally moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, strong near the coast.Friday 14 JuneRain areas over Gippsland, widespread over east Gippsland with local heavy falls possible. Scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, with only isolated showers possible over the northern plains. Snowfalls above 1400 metres. A cool day with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong along the Gippsland coastal fringe.Saturday 15 JuneIsolated showers over the south, more widespread over central and eastern Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres. A cool day with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong along the Gippsland coastal fringe.Sunday 16 JuneIsolated showers over the south, more widespread over central and eastern Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres.
