MELBOURNE - Jun 11/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is moving eastwards across the Tasman Sea. A weakening low pressure system just southeast of Tasmania has an associated trough over central Bass Strait. A second low near the South Australian coast will move into South Australia this evening and is expected to track eastwards over southern New South Wales on Wednesday before intensifying over eastern Bass Strait on Thursday. The low is likely to move only slowly to the northeast on Friday then eastwards across the Tasman Sea on Saturday as a high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge to the south of Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers over the Central districts possibly extending elsewhere across central and western districts this evening. Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the northwest. Remaining dry elsewhere. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds tending southerly over the southwest.Wednesday 12 JuneCloudy with areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the north. Isolated showers in the south increasing to rain areas by the afternoon. A cool day with moderate south to southeasterly winds tending light east to northeasterly in the east. Winds freshening near the coastal fringe in the afternoon.Thursday 13 JuneCloudy with patchy rain, more widespread over Gippsland and parts of the Central district with local heavy falls possible. Snow developing above 1600 metres in the afternoon. A cool day with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, strong near the coast.Friday 14 JuneWidespread rain over central and eastern Gippsland with local heavy falls possible, tending to showers from the west during the day. Isolated showers elsewhere, mainly over the south. Snow above 1300 metres over the eastern ranges. A cool day with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong along the Gippsland coastal fringe.Saturday 15 JuneIsolated showers over the south, more widespread over central and eastern Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres.
