MELBOURNE - Jun 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for northeast Gulf waters north of Crab Island. A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Gladstone. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between Noosa Heads and Point Danger. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure lies along Queensland's east coast. A high pressure system over southeast Australia is expected to move eastwards into the Tasman Sea this evening, and is pushing a southeasterly change over southeast Queensland during today with increasing showers expected. A weak upper level trough is moving over southern Queensland, while a stronger upper trough is located over Central Australia. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy with scattered showers developing across the southeast. Mainly isolated showers over remaining eastern districts, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast tonight. Cloudy over the southern interior but with little or no rain. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate E to SE winds, fresh to strong about parts of the east coast. A Very High Fire Danger in the North West. Forecast for Sunday The high should drift eastwards across the Tasman Sea while maintaining fresh to strong SE winds along Queensland's east coast and showers over eastern districts, more widespread over the far southeast of the state. The high should push moisture into the central interior and produce areas of drizzle and afternoon showers. An upper level trough over central Australia should result in cloudy conditions across the west and south of the state with patchy light rain, increasing near the southern border in the afternoon and evening. The northern interior should remain fine and clear. Forecast for Monday The high should remain over the Tasman Sea and is likely to maintain an onshore flow and at least isolated showers across Queensland's eastern districts. The cloud band should thicken over the southern interior and the state's southeast, producing areas of rain and scattered showers. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible about the state border in the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the western and northern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high should weaken over the Tasman Sea and accordingly the onshore flow will weaken along Queensland's east coast, though isolated showers are still expected over the eastern districts. Isolated afternoon showers are also expected about the southern and central interior ahead of an upper level trough. A new band of cloud and rain may enter the far southwest of the state during the evening. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The upper level trough should move across southern Queensland from around mid week, producing areas of rain, at least isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms across all southern districts. The falls over the state's southwest are likely to be more widespread and useful than those earlier in the week, however they are unlikely to be heavy or even moderate. Relatively high falls are expected over the southeast districts in the more humid conditions there. Mainly isolated showers over the remaining central and eastern districts. Showers and rain clearing most of the state by Friday as dry westerly winds get drawn across the state by a low that may strengthen near the New South Wales coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
