MELBOURNE - Jun 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Cape Tribulation. A Strong Wind Warning is current for northern Gulf waters. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for remaining Northeast Gulf Waters for Friday morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1026hPa] over eastern New South Wales extends a ridge into Queensland. An upper level trough lies over Central Australia. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated showers across eastern districts. Areas of early morning drizzle over the eastern interior, tending to isolated showers during the afternoon. Cloudy with some patchy light rain over the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate northerly to easterly winds over the interior, and moderate to fresh east to southeast winds about most of the east coast, fresh to strong across the far northern tropics. Forecast for Friday A new high should drift across South Australia maintaining fresh to strong onshore flow and mainly isolated showers over eastern Queensland. Some early drizzle is expected across the eastern interior and the Central Coast region. Remaining cloudy over the southern interior with patchy light rain in the far southwest of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Forecast for Saturday The high should drift over New South Wales and strengthen, with isolated showers continuing over eastern districts in the fresh to strong onshore flow. The cloud band and associated patchy rain areas should gradually move eastwards across the southern interior, though it still should only be able to generate light falls over the region. Fine and partly cloudy conditions should occur over remaining districts. Forecast for Sunday The strong high should drift into the Tasman Sea, maintaining fresh to strong SE winds along the east coast and isolated to scattered showers over eastern districts. The high should inject moisture into the central interior assisting in the development of afternoon showers. A relatively moist low level flow should combine with a weak surface trough to produce some isolated showers over the southern interior. A new cloud band should develop across the western interior though little or no rainfall is expected, while the northern interior should remain fine and clear. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The high should weaken but remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea gradually decreasing the SE flow along the east coast. The onshore flow from the high should at least maintain isolated showers over the eastern districts. An upper level trough should move across southern parts of the state from the west during the early part of the week producing some areas of light rain, showers and possible storms. The interior should otherwise be mostly fine and clear. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
