Weather Situation
A high over eastern New South Wales extends a ridge into Queensland. This
high will move east and a another cell will move in from South Australia and
freshen winds about the Queensland coast by Saturday. Various cloud bands with
patchy rain will occur over western and southern Queensland over the next few
days.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Showers about the east coast generally, extending inland in the afternoon.
Some early morning drizzle possible about the central coast and southern
tropics. Extensive higher cloud through the south and the west of the state with
little or no rain in the far west. Generally fine and sunny further north near
the Gulf. Some isolated early frost patches in the Maranoa district and the
Granite Belt. Light to moderate Southeast winds generally over the interior,
moderate to fresh about the east coast. Fresh to strong Southeast winds across
the tropics.
Forecast for Thursday
The first high cell has cleared the New South Wales coast but a ridge
persists across Queensland. Showers persisting about the east coast of
Queensland, extending inland during the afternoon. Some early morning drizzle
inland from the central coast, southern tropics and the Central Highlands
district. Isolated afternoon showers now extending further west across the
Darling Downs. Continuing cloudy over the southwest of the state and the
southern districts with some patchy light rain. Fine and sunny further north
towards the Gulf. Strong Southeast winds persisting in the tropics. Very warm in
the northwest of the state with maximum temperatures near 30 degrees.
Forecast for Friday
A new high cell approaches South Australia otherwise overall conditions
across Queensland have changed little. Showers persisting about the east coast
and extending inland in the afternoon. Some early drizzle inland from the
central coast and the Capricorn coast. Remaining cloudy in the southwest and
south with patchy light rain in the far southwest of the state. Generally warmer
than average in the west, maxima near 30 degrees in the northwest of the state.
Southeast winds will generally freshen about the east coast, strong winds north
of about Bowen and continuing in the northern Gulf.
Forecast for Saturday
The new high cell enters New South Wales and this will continue to increase
wind speeds about the Queensland coast. Strong wind conditions now north of
Gladstone and continuing over the northern Gulf. The cloud band in the west now
contracts to the southern interior with decreasing patchy rain. Showers however
persist about the east coast and extend inland during the day. Day temperatures
again above average in the west and northwest of the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high eventually moves off the New south Wales coast on Sunday but the
strong winds persist on the Queensland coast north of Gladstone. A new upper
level trough approaches from the west generating new patchy rain over the
southern interior. Little change in the shower activity over eastern districts.
As this new upper level trough progresses east on Monday the instability will
increase in the southeast region leading to increasing showers and possible
afternoon thunderstorms near the southern border. Elsewhere little change with
showers continuing along eastern coastal districts. Strong wind conditions will
however contract back towards the tropics on Monday. By Tuesday the upper level
trough has cleared the southeast region with decreasing showers.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
