MELBOURNE - Jun 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Cape Tribulation. A Strong Wind Warning is current for northern Gulf waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over eastern New South Wales extends a ridge into Queensland. This high will move east and a another cell will move in from South Australia and freshen winds about the Queensland coast by Saturday. Various cloud bands with patchy rain will occur over western and southern Queensland over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Showers about the east coast generally, extending inland in the afternoon. Some early morning drizzle possible about the central coast and southern tropics. Extensive higher cloud through the south and the west of the state with little or no rain in the far west. Generally fine and sunny further north near the Gulf. Some isolated early frost patches in the Maranoa district and the Granite Belt. Light to moderate Southeast winds generally over the interior, moderate to fresh about the east coast. Fresh to strong Southeast winds across the tropics. Forecast for Thursday The first high cell has cleared the New South Wales coast but a ridge persists across Queensland. Showers persisting about the east coast of Queensland, extending inland during the afternoon. Some early morning drizzle inland from the central coast, southern tropics and the Central Highlands district. Isolated afternoon showers now extending further west across the Darling Downs. Continuing cloudy over the southwest of the state and the southern districts with some patchy light rain. Fine and sunny further north towards the Gulf. Strong Southeast winds persisting in the tropics. Very warm in the northwest of the state with maximum temperatures near 30 degrees. Forecast for Friday A new high cell approaches South Australia otherwise overall conditions across Queensland have changed little. Showers persisting about the east coast and extending inland in the afternoon. Some early drizzle inland from the central coast and the Capricorn coast. Remaining cloudy in the southwest and south with patchy light rain in the far southwest of the state. Generally warmer than average in the west, maxima near 30 degrees in the northwest of the state. Southeast winds will generally freshen about the east coast, strong winds north of about Bowen and continuing in the northern Gulf. Forecast for Saturday The new high cell enters New South Wales and this will continue to increase wind speeds about the Queensland coast. Strong wind conditions now north of Gladstone and continuing over the northern Gulf. The cloud band in the west now contracts to the southern interior with decreasing patchy rain. Showers however persist about the east coast and extend inland during the day. Day temperatures again above average in the west and northwest of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high eventually moves off the New south Wales coast on Sunday but the strong winds persist on the Queensland coast north of Gladstone. A new upper level trough approaches from the west generating new patchy rain over the southern interior. Little change in the shower activity over eastern districts. As this new upper level trough progresses east on Monday the instability will increase in the southeast region leading to increasing showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms near the southern border. Elsewhere little change with showers continuing along eastern coastal districts. Strong wind conditions will however contract back towards the tropics on Monday. By Tuesday the upper level trough has cleared the southeast region with decreasing showers. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
