Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 31/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front and low pressure trough is crossing the Bight, linking with a broad cloud mass associated with an upper level jet stream that stretches from the northwest of the continent. The front will reach the far west of Victoria early on Saturday and extend to the east of the State by Saturday night. A second cold front will cross Tasmania on Sunday serving to maintain a cool fresh southwest to southerly airflow across Victoria. The next high pressure system will move over the Bight on Monday and will be approaching northwest Victoria Monday night. The high will move across northern victoria on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers on the northern slopes of the divide and parts of Gippsland at first. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms extending to central and northern regions during the evening. Locally heavy falls developing in the west by the evening. Mainly dry over Gippsland. Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds.Saturday 1 JuneWidespread rain with locally heavy falls, especially about the ranges, contracting to the north and east late in the day then easing at night. Isolated thunderstorms in the northwest, clearing in the afternoon. Isolated showers to follow the rain band. Moderate to fresh northwest to northerly winds shifting cooler fresh south to southwesterly from the southwest during the morning to reach all districts by the evening.Sunday 2 JuneIsolated showers contracting to the south, falling as snow above 1600 metres. A cool day with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind.Monday 3 JuneIsolated showers in the south, scattered near the coast. Snow above 1500 metres. Fine over the northern plains. A cool day with a moderating south to southwesterly wind.Tuesday 4 JuneIsolated morning showers near the coast. Early fog and frost inland.
