Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea will continue to
the southeast and weaken during the remainder of Saturday. Large south to
southeasterly waves and rough surf are expected to affect coastal waters south
of Sandy Cape during the remainder of the weekend. A high [1032 hPa] over the
Great Australian Bight will move slowly east during the next few days, extending
a strengthening ridge over much of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers about northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers about
the exposed coast in the far south. Fine and clear over the interior of the
state. Fresh to strong and gusty SW to SE winds over the southeast. Mostly
moderate to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds over the remainder of the state.
Rough surf conditions along the coast south of Sandy Cape.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny over much of the state with only isolated showers about
the exposed parts of the east coast. Cool to cold conditions are expected with
local frost areas about the Atherton Tablelands and parts of the southeast
interior. Moderate S to SE winds for most of the state, fresh to strong winds
along the east coast. Rough surf conditions will persist along the coast south
of Sandy Cape.
Forecast for Monday
The large high pressure system will remain slow moving over Tasmania and will
maintain the south to southeasterly airstream across the state. Isolated showers
are expected about the east coast in the onshore southeasterly flow and will
likely tend scattered about coastal parts of the North Topical Coast. The
interior of the state will remain fine due to the influence of the high pressure
system. A cool to cold morning is again expected over the interior with frost
areas through the southeast interior. Strong winds and rough surf conditions are
expected to have eased along the southern Queensland coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The large high pressure system is forecast to move into the Tasman Sea and
will maintain south to southeasterly winds across the state. Isolated showers
are expected about the east coast in the onshore southeasterly flow, scattered
about the north tropical and central coasts, with isolated showers developing
over the eastern interior during the day. The remainder of the state will remain
fine and mostly sunny under the influence of the high pressure system, apart
from isolated showers over the northwest Gulf Country. A cool morning is again
expected over the southern interior with local early frost areas about the
southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high pressure system will continue to move eastwards across the Tasman
Sea. Winds will tend more E to SE across most of the state with moisture
extending further west into the interior of the state. Isolated to scattered
showers will persist about the east coast in the fresh to strong onshore flow,
with isolated showers extending further inland into the southern tropical
interior, central and southern interior. Western areas should remain fine and
mostly sunny. Minimum temperatures should return to average for the time of
year.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The large high pressure system will slowly drift towards the east over the
outlook period with fresh to strong E to SE winds persisting about the east
coast. Isolated to scattered showers will therefore persist about the east coast
and adjacent eastern districts. A weak upper trough moving across the state
during Thursday may produce some patchy light rain the far southwest. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
