Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system centred off the northern N.S.W coast is expected to move slowly southeastwards across the Tasman Sea on Friday. A high pressure system over the western Bight extends a ridge across Tasmania. The ridge will move northeastwards across Victoria on Friday as a weakening cold front passes through Bass Strait. The high will move from the Bight to lie near Adelaide by late Saturday then move slowly towards Victoria on Sunday as further fronts embedded in southwesterly flow cross Tasmania. On Monday the high will move to the east of Tasmania by late in the day.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over Gippsland but dry elsewhere. Light to moderate southeasterly winds, fresh about the ranges this evening.Friday 24 MayWidespread early fog and frost inland. Locally severe frost in the northeast. Isolated showers developing in the Southwest and Central districts, mainly near the coast. Cool with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Saturday 25 MayAreas of fog inland and early frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers in southern districts, more widespread near the Southwest and Central coast. Partly cloudy in the north. Cool with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh near the coast.Sunday 26 MayEarly frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers near the coast extending inland during the afternoon but remaining dry over much of the northern plains and East Gippsland. Cool with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the Central and Gippsland coasts.Monday 27 MayAreas of fog inland and early frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers in southern districts, contracting to the Gippsland coast in the evening. Mostly sunny in the north. Cool with generally light south to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.Product IDV10310
