MELBOURNE - May 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over southern WA extends a ridge to the south of Tasmania. A low pressure system centred north of Mildura will move rapidly eastwards across N.S.W tonight and early Thursday and weaken. Another low will develop off the northern NSW coast during Thursday. The high will reach the Bight late Thursday then move across the Bight on Friday, the associated ridge will weaken as it moves northward during this period. The next cold front will move across Bass Strait Friday. The high will move from the Bight to lie near Adelaide by late Saturday and will move slowly towards Victoria on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayPatchy rain across the north and west. Mostly cloudy elsewhere with light to moderate east to southeasterly winds.Thursday 23 MayEarly fog and frost patches inland. Patchy rain clearing from the northwest during the morning. Isolated showers or drizzle over Gippsland and near the Otway ranges. Cool with moderate southeasterly winds, fresh about the ranges and parts of the coastal fringe.Friday 24 MayWidespread early fog and frost inland. Isolated showers developing in the Southwest and Central districts, mainly near the coast. Cool with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 25 MayAreas of fog inland and early frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers in southern districts, more widespread near the Southwest and Central coast. Partly cloudy in the north. Cool with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Sunday 26 MayEarly frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers near the coast extending inland during the afternoon but remaining dry over much of the northern plains and East Gippsland.
