A surface low will develop during Thursday off the northern New South Wales coast. A high pressure system [1025 hPa] near Perth will gradually strengthen and move eastwards to be located over the Great Australian Bight, while developing a ridge into western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Cloudy with areas of rain stretching from the northwest of the state to the southeast, extending into the southern tropics during the evening. Rain clearing from the southwest over the remainder of the day, but isolated showers and drizzle areas persisting in the south. Isolated showers through the tropics, mostly about the Gulf Country and northern Cape York Peninsula. Cool to cold over southern Queensland. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds in the tropics, tending N to NW ahead of the trough. Mostly moderate SW to NW winds southwest of the trough. A high to very high fire danger in the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. Forecast for Thursday The band of cloud with rain and drizzle areas will contract offshore over the southern and central coasts early in the day, though will extend back over land across the tropical coast and interior while weakening. There is also likely to be isolated showers and drizzle areas in southern parts of the state in the moist, cool southwesterly flow following the rain band. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the far southern interior. Cool to cold conditions across the interior. Mostly light to moderate S to SW winds across the state, tending fresh at times in the west. Light to moderate S to SE winds across the far northern Tropics. Forecast for Friday The upper low is expected to push off the far southern Queensland coast during the afternoon. The low pressure system is expected to strengthen off the northern New South Wales coast, and combined with a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight, a cool southerly airmass is expected across the state. Isolated showers are expected over the southeast and southern interior. Showers will tend scattered about the southern border, with possible afternoon thunderstorms about the Granite Belt and Border Ranges. Isolated showers are possible over the northeast tropics. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Strong winds are expected during the morning over the southern Gulf and will develop during the evening about the southeast coast waters. Forecast for Saturday The upper low will move further east into the Tasman Sea and the surface low off the New South Wales coast will continue move east to northeast. A large high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight will extend a deep southerly airstream through the state into the tropics, with cooler than average temperatures expected across Queensland, especially in the south. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds across the state, tending strong over the southern Gulf as well as about the northern tropics and southern waters. Gales are expected to develop off the southeast coast waters as the low moves further offshore. Rough surf conditions will develop about the exposed coast south of Sandy Cape. Forecast for Sunday The large high pressure system will remain anchored in the Great Australian Bight and will maintain the deep south to southeasterly airstream across the state. Isolated showers will develop about the exposed coastal parts in the onshore SE flow. The interior of the state will remain fine, due to the influence of the high pressure system. Strong winds are expected along the east coast and also over the southern Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning. Rough surf conditions about the exposed coast south of Sandy Cape should gradually ease during the day. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The large high pressure system will slowly drift towards the east over the outlook period maintaining S to SE winds across the state.
