Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure is located over Victoria as a low pressure system moves over the head of the Bight. The low will move rapidly eastwards across South Australia on Wednesday then over N.S.W late Wednesday into Thursday, reaching the north Tasman Sea later Thursday. The next high will reach the Bight on Thursday briefly extending a ridge to Tasmania but this ridge will be eroded by an approaching cold front. The front will move across southern Victoria on Friday. The high will move from the Bight to near Adelaide by late Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayPatchy rain entering the far west at night. Light winds tending light to moderate east to northeasterly over the west.Wednesday 22 MayLocal early morning fog and frost patches in the south and east. Areas of rain developing over most western and northern areas during the morning then contracting to the north in the evening. Snow on Alpine peaks above 1700 metres. Isolated showers possible near the coast. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds.Thursday 23 MayPatchy rain in the north clearing. Isolated showers in the south, scattered over Gippsland. Cool with moderate southeasterly winds.Friday 24 MayEarly fog and frost patches inland. Isolated showers developing in southwest and central districts, becoming scattered near the southwest coast. Cool with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 25 MayEarly frost patches inland. Isolated showers in southern districts, tending to scattered near the coast. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
