Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An area of high pressure is located over eastern Australia, and through
southern Queensland and into the Coral Sea. A surface and upper trough will
approach southwest Queensland later today, and move through the state on
Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers over the tropics. Cloudy over southern Queensland, with
areas of mostly light rain through the southern and central inland parts of the
state. Fine and generally partly cloudy elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds, fresh at times about the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
Cloudy with areas of rain through the south and west of the state, extending
to the east and southern tropics during the day. Rain clearing in the far
southwest during the day, but isolated shower or drizzle areas developing its
wake. Isolated showers through the tropics. Cool to cold over southern
Queensland. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds in the tropics. Mostly moderate NW
to SW winds elsewhere. A high to very high fire danger in the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders district.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper low will move east over northern New South Wales or far southern
Queensland. The band of cloud and rain will most likely contract offshore of the
southern and central coasts early in the day, though continue to extend back
towards the southern tropics. There is also likely to be isolated showers and
drizzle areas in southern parts of the state in the moist, cool southwesterly
flow following the rain band. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the far
southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The upper low is expected to push off the northern New South Wales or far
southern Queensland coast during the afternoon. A low pressure system is
expected to develop off the New South Wales coast, and combined with a  high
pressure system in the Great Australian Bight, a cool southerly airmass is
expected across the state. Isolated showers are expected over the southeast and
southern interior, while isolated showers are possible over the northeast
tropics. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Strong winds are expected over the
southern Gulf and develop later about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper low will move further east into the Tasman Sea, while another upper
trough will push over eastern Queensland. The surface low off the New South
Wales coast will continue moving eastwards. A deep southerly airstream will push
through the state into the tropics, with cooler than average temperatures
expected across Queensland, especially in the south. Fresh to strong winds
expected over the southern coast with isolated showers.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper trough will push off the east coast during Sunday. Isolated showers
and fresh to strong winds are expected for much of the east coast. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere. Cool to cold conditions should continue for most of
Queensland.
