MELBOURNE - May 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just east of Bass Strait will move eastwards over the Tasman Sea tonight. The low will meander around the Tasman Sea on Friday and Saturday and a high pressure ridge will gradually move from the Bight towards western Victoria. The ridge will be weakening when it crosses the State on Monday and a small low pressure system is expected to form west of Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more extensive about the eastern ranges. Snow showers above 1400m. Local hail and thunder over central and eastern areas, contracting to the Gippsland coast. Cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong about the Gippsland coast.Friday 17 MayScattered showers in southern and mountain areas becoming isolated in the west. Isolated showers penetrating just north of the divide in the afternoon but dry in the Mallee. Snow above 1400 metres. A cool to cold day with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind moderating from the west.Saturday 18 MayIsolated showers persisting in southern and mountain areas. Local afternoon showers reaching some northern areas. Local morning fogs in the west. A cool to cold and partly cloudy day with a light to moderate south to southwesterly wind.Sunday 19 MayMorning frost and fog patches in the north and east. Isolated showers in southern and mountain districts but dry on the northern plains. Cool and partly cloudy with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.Monday 20 MayIsolated showers in the south but dry in the north.
