MELBOURNE - May 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just northwest of Tasmania will move eastwards across central and eastern Bass Strait tonight to reach the Tasman Sea later on Thursday. The low will meander around the Tasman Sea on Friday and Saturday and a high pressure ridge will gradually move from the Bight towards western Victoria. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, widespread near the coast although only isolated showers reaching East Gippsland. Isolated showers also on the northern plains. Snowfalls above 1400 metres. Local hail and thunder possible near the coast. Cool to cold with fresh and gusty northwest to westerly winds, strong near the coast and tending southwesterly in the west.Thursday 16 MayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more extensive near the coast and over the east Central and West and South Gippsland districts. Isolated showers extending to the northern plains. Snow showers above 1400m. Local hail and thunder in the south. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at times near the central and Gippsland coasts.Friday 17 MayFine over the northern plains. Isolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered in Gippsland and over the Central district. Snow above 1500 metres. A cool day with a moderate to locally fresh south to southwesterly wind moderating from the west.Saturday 18 MayScattered showers in East Gippsland. Isolated showers in most remaining southern areas. Fine over the north and far west following local morning fogs. A cool to cold and partly cloudy day with a light to moderate south to southwesterly wind.Sunday 19 MayIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts but dry on the northern plains.
