MELBOURNE - May 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just west of Tasmania is moving northeastwards and will pass across central Bass Strait this afternoon and overnight then will head eastwards towards the Tasman Sea on Thursday. The low will be over the Tasman Sea on Friday as a high pressure system south of the Bight approaches Tasmania. On Saturday the high pressure system will remain to the west of Tasmania and will extend a ridge northwards to far western Victoria. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, widespread near the coast. Mostly dry however over East Gippsland. Isolated showers extending to the northern plains. Snow showers above 1200m lifting to 1500 metres this afternoon. Local hail and thunder in the south. A cold day with fresh and gusty northwest to westerly winds tending southwesterly in the west.Thursday 16 MayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more extensive near the coast and over the east Central and West and South Gippsland districts. Isolated showers extending to the northern plains. Snow showers above 1400m. Local hail and thunder in the south. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times near the central and Gippsland coasts.Friday 17 MayFine over the northern plains. Isolated showers in southern and mountain areas, scattered in Gippsland and over the Central district. Snow above 1500 metres. A cool day with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind moderating from the west.Saturday 18 MayScattered showers in East Gippsland. Isolated showers in remaining southern areas. Fine over the north.
