MELBOURNE - May 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1022 hPa] in the western Great Australian Bight extends a ridge through the interior of Queensland. A surface trough extends along the Queensland east coast, moving slowly east. A weak upper level trough will move across the state from the west during today. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and morning drizzle about central and southern tropical areas, and also over the far northern Peninsula district. Isolated afternoon showers elsewhere over eastern districts north of about Emerald. Cloudy over southern and central parts, with little to no rainfall in the west. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Light to moderate E to SE winds over the tropics, tending SW to SE elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday The next upper trough is expected to move across the state with high cloud extending across much of Queensland apart from the northern tropics. The slow moving high in the Great Australian Bight will maintain the ridge and mostly fine conditions over western Queensland thus little or no rainfall is expected from the high cloud. Patchy rain should develop over central and southern parts of the state, tending to more widespread rain about the Central Coast and Capricornia districts. Mostly fine conditions are expected across the northern tropics with only isolated showers in the moist onshore flow. Fine and partly cloudy conditions should occur elsewhere. Cool conditions over most of the state, with possible morning frost over the Granite Belt. Forecast for Friday The upper trough is expected to move eastwards off the central coast early in the morning, with the cloud and patchy rain clearing eastwards. Mostly fine conditions should persist in the tropics with only isolated showers, mostly about the coast in a moist onshore flow. High cloud developing in the northwest of the state, with little to no rain expected. The high in the Great Australian Bight should maintain a ridge across western and southern Queensland with drier, cooler air extending into southern areas of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur over the remainder. Cool conditions over most of the state with early frost areas expected over the Granite Belt and parts of the Maranoa. Forecast for Saturday Mostly fine conditions should persist in the tropics with only isolated showers in the moist onshore flow. The next upper level trough is expected to move across the state from the west extending high cloud across western and central parts, although little or no rainfall is expected. The high in the Great Australian Bight should start moving NE over southern Australia, maintaining a cool and dry airmass over western and southern parts of the state and thus fine and partly cloudy conditions over the southern interior and southeast districts. Early frost over the southeast and parts of the southern interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high over southern Australia is expected to move towards the NE and over New South Wales, maintaining the cool, dry, southerly airflow over much of the state with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. The next upper level trough may move across western parts from late Monday bringing high cloud although little or no rainfall is expected. The trough may then move through central parts on Tuesday extending the high cloud over central and eastern districts potentially bringing some patchy light rain. Mostly fine in the far northern tropics with only isolated showers expected in the weakening onshore flow. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
