MELBOURNE - May 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1022 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge over the western
Coral Sea. A surface trough extends from the tropical interior through eastern
districts and into the Southeast Coast. The southern section of the trough will
shift off the southeast Queensland coast during tonight to lie near the central
coast by tomorrow. A new high [1023 hPa] in the Southern Ocean extends a ridge
over southern and western parts of the state, extending to southeastern parts on
Wednesday following the trough. A weak upper level trough will move across the
state from the west during Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Cloudy over central parts of the state with patchy light rain areas easing to
isolated showers during the evening. Partly cloudy with isolated light showers
over the southeast interior, tending scattered about southeast coastal parts
until evening. Isolated showers about the eastern tropics, easing into the
evening. Fine and mostly clear over remaining parts of the state. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics, tending SW to SE elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
Cloudy over southern and central parts although with little or no rainfall.
Isolated showers about coastal parts north of Mackay, tending scattered about
the Whitsunday Islands. Mostly fine over parts of the central and tropical
interior, with only isolated afternoon showers. Fine and partly cloudy over
remaining parts. A cool morning in the south with possible early frost about the
Granite Belt. Light to moderate E to SE winds over the tropics, tending SW to SE
elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The next upper trough is expected to move across the state with high cloud
extending across much of the state except the northern tropics. The slow moving
high in the Southern Ocean should maintain a ridge and mostly fine conditions
over western Queensland thus little or no rainfall is expected from the high
cloud. Patchy rain should develop over central parts of the state, tending more
widespread about the Central Coast and Capricornia districts. Mostly fine
conditions should occur across the northern tropics with only isolated showers
in the moist onshore flow. Fine and partly conditions should occur elsewhere.
Cool conditions over most of the state.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough is expected to move eastwards off the central coast early in
the morning, with the cloud and patchy rain clearing eastwards. Mostly fine
conditions should persist in the tropics with only isolated showers, mostly
about the coast in a moist onshore flow. The high in the Southern Ocean should
maintain a ridge across western and southern Queensland with drier, cooler air
extending into southern Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should
occur over the remainder. Cool conditions over most of the state with early
frost areas expected over the Granite Belt and parts of the Maranoa.
Forecast for Saturday
Mostly fine conditions should persist in the tropics with only isolated
showers in the moist onshore flow. The next upper level trough is expected to
move across the state from the west extending high cloud across western and
central parts, although little or no rainfall is expected. The high in the
Southern Ocean should move slowly eastwards towards Tasmania, maintaining a cool
and dry airmass over western and southern parts of the state and thus fine and
partly conditions over the southern interior and southeast districts.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high in the Southern Ocean should continue moving slowly eastwards
maintaining the cool, dry, southerly airflow over much of the state with
extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior until early next
week. The next upper level trough may move across western parts from late Monday
bringing high cloud although little or no rainfall is expected. The trough may
then move through central parts on Tuesday extending the high cloud over central
and eastern districts potentially bringing some patchy light rain. Mostly fine
in the far northern tropics with only isolated showers expected in the weakening
onshore flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
